Ongata Foundation Farm
Impact Simulator

See how farm size, yield and basic infrastructure choices could shape what the farm on Plot 779 can produce – and what it would take to prove it.

● Fact from our records◆ Project target◌ Scenario assumption you can change
01 · Production scenario

Change the scenario

Scenario input – not a confirmation of the area cultivated today.

Reference: Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture / JICA SHEP PLUS cites about 15 t per acre per crop cycle for well-managed kale; many smallholders harvest far less. Real yields depend on crop, season, water, soil, pests and method.

Share lost between field and plate (spoilage, transport, storage).

Modelled harvest
tonnes per year
Usable food after losses
tonnes per year
Indicative food reach*
people meeting the WHO 400 g/day vegetable & fruit guideline for a year

*Scaling only: usable tonnes ÷ 146 kg (400 g × 365 days, WHO healthy-diet guideline). Not a forecast of beneficiaries, nutrition outcomes, sales or distribution. Real reach needs weighed harvests, crop mix and distribution records.

02 · Farm systems

Water and solar pumping

Drip ≈ 85–90 %, hose/furrow often 50–70 %.

A planning concept, not a system design. Pump size, lift height and water source need a site survey and supplier specification.

03 · Crop mix

Plan the area

Delivery roadmap

  1. Validate & baseline – plot boundaries, land access, current cultivation, water source, soil, community priorities. Gate: baseline signed off.
  2. Design & budget – crop calendar, irrigation and solar pump specification, bill of quantities, maintenance plan, risk register. Gate: technical review.
  3. Install & cultivate – transparent procurement, training of the women-led farm team, records of inputs, water, planting and harvests. Gate: commissioning records.
  4. Measure & improve – weighed harvests, sales, household distribution, participation, costs, lessons. Gate: evidence-backed report.

Proposed phases – not confirmation that activities are completed, scheduled or funded.

Formulas: harvest = acres × t/acre; usable = harvest × (1 − loss); reach = usable kg ÷ 146; water m³/day = acres × 4,046.86 m² × mm ÷ 1,000 ÷ efficiency; PV kWp = kWh/day ÷ sun-hours ÷ 0.75.
